Step 1 Keep any and all original paperwork of your car, especially if you're the original owner. Having this information adds value to your car. Include any personal history or stories you can add, such as where and when you bought the car along with any stories the previous owner may have told you. # Step 2 Take inventory of all the parts you have for the vehicle. Even if your vehicle is in pieces, take careful inventory of all the parts you have for the car. Make a complete list including part numbers and have it ready to email or send out. If you have extra parts for the car, including the list with part numbers in the ad, it could land you a better price and save you time and money from having to sell them separately. # Step 3 Take identifying pictures of the car. If you've rebuilt or remodeled the car, hopefully you've kept accurate records of your progress through pictures and receipts that you can forward to potential buyers. Be sure to carefully note any specific damage to your vehicle. Buyers want to know what they're getting for the money and aren't afraid of having to do a little body or engine work to get their dream car. # Step 4 Have the VIN available. Depending on the make and model of your muscle or classic car, the VIN can tell prospective buyers the engine code to specify what type of V-8 your car has (such as displacement level and/or performance level), the body style, the body assembly location and the vehicle build sequence number. # Step 5 Research the going price for your car in today's economy. Remember that a muscle or classic car is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. Search online at ebay Motors for similar makes and models and other online classifieds such as hemmings. Adjust for the actual condition of your car and decide on a selling price, allowing a little room for negotiation. Where to Advertise and Sell Your Muscle Car # Step 1 Consider an online auction through ebay Motors which sells tons of muscle and classic cars. They have over 10 million nationwide shoppers with cars being sold every 60 seconds! There's a fee to list your vehicle and a commission to be paid when your vehicle sells, but the exposure and potential bidding wars may well be worth it! # Step 2 Check out AntiqueCar.com where you can place an ad and sell your car for free. The ad lasts 3 months, you can include up to 8 pictures of your car, it includes a traffic counter to see how many people are looking at your ad, and renewals are free. You can upgrade your ad to drive more traffic to it for an additional fee. # Step 3 Consult with Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, LLC. Go to barrett-jackson.com for their onsite auction info in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Palm Beach, Florida, especially if you think you have something really rare that should bring top dollar. # Step 4 Check out the Carlisle Events located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, fairgrounds by going to carsatcarlisle.com. They host collector (classic car) car, truck and motorcycle events and attract more than 500,000 enthusiasts each year with car auctions and automotive swap meets. Fill out their online form to become a consigner to sell your car at their auction, and check out their online forums and other resources while you're there! # Step 5 Join or contact online forums or blogs such as Muscle Car Blogs at musclecarblog.com. You can sign up for a free account and have access to member's only forums and features where you can advertise word-of-mouth and post pictures of your vehicle with your member name. # Step 6 Advertise in Hemmings through hard copy or online at hemmings.com. They're the world's largest collector-car source for enthusiasts! You'll pay a fee to advertise, but you'll reach a huge audience for this niche market. # Step 7 Search events at Hemmings.com by clicking on the "Event Calendar" link. You can search by location for car shows, swap meets and other events that you can attend throughout the year to sell your car. You may need to spend a few bucks to enter your car in shows or sell it at a swap meet, but the niche exposure may pay off big. Celebrities, like Jay Leno, have been spotted perusing different swap meets and car shows at various locations. # Step 8 Bank on word-of-mouth advertisement! Be sure to spread the word to other enthusiasts through blogs, swap meets and other online forums. In this niche market, word travels faster than your muscle car if you have something somebody wants! |
